Comparing PEM Electrolyzer Quotations on the Same Basis

Compare PEM electrolyzer quotations against the same delivery requirement. Two offers can list the same hydrogen output while covering different gas treatment, power equipment, site work and support. A lower equipment total is not enough to establish the lower cost of an equivalent installation.

Use this quotation-comparison worksheet after defining your application and purchase scope. It is intended for technical and procurement discussions, not as a live market price list or a supplier ranking.

Understand quotation cost factors · Review systems and stacks · Request a scope review

1. Issue one requirement sheet to all bidders

State the required output and its reference conditions, gas quality at the point of delivery, outlet pressure, operating profile, destination and available utilities. Identify whether the purchase is a stack module, an integrated system or a larger project package.

Ask each supplier to state assumptions and deviations explicitly. Keep a common revision of the requirements so a later technical change is not accidentally compared with an earlier offer.

2. Build a comparison register before comparing totals

3. Separate technical equivalence from commercial adjustments

First resolve whether the proposals meet the same essential duty. A supplier’s maximum flow, reference configuration or optional dryer cannot be treated as the accepted operating specification without confirmation.

Then list the additional equipment and work needed to reach your required boundary. Obtain estimates for purchaser-supplied items instead of inserting arbitrary allowances. Keep equipment price, freight, site work and recurring operating costs visible as separate lines.

When reporting a normalised comparison, use a stated currency and exchange-rate date, identify exclusions and retain the original supplier quotation. Do not convert an incomplete offer into an apparently precise installed price.

4. Compare energy and operating assumptions consistently

A stack DC figure and an AC system figure describe different electrical boundaries. Also check load, pressure, temperature, gas quality and whether compression or site utilities are included. Request the model-specific data needed for your intended duty.

Separate peak capacity used to select equipment from average demand used to estimate annual gas use. Apply the site’s actual operating profile and electricity assumptions. Replacement intervals and maintenance costs need evidence for the proposed equipment and duty; they should not be copied from a generic industry claim.

5. Agree acceptance and handover before order placement

  • Approved specification and controlled drawing revisions.
  • Named equipment boundary and each party’s integration responsibilities.
  • Factory acceptance conditions, measurable criteria and records.
  • Site readiness, installation and commissioning responsibilities.
  • Documentation, training, spare parts, warranty and service arrangements.

For stack offers, review our integration-interface checklist. For supplier qualification, use the document due-diligence checklist. These checks address different parts of the purchase decision.

Quotation-comparison questions

Should we choose the lowest equipment price?

Evaluate technical fit, the cost of missing scope, acceptance evidence and support before deciding. Record the trade-offs that matter to your project.

Can we compare a bare stack with a turnkey offer?

Show the stack offer separately until its required auxiliaries, integration and site responsibilities are defined and costed. Do not treat the two initial totals as equivalent.

Can HELE review our requirements before quoting?

Send a technical brief and the scope you need. The team can discuss product selection and identify information needed for a project-specific offer.

Request a quotation with a clear equipment boundary

Send your company or institution, application, destination, output, gas-quality and pressure requirements, operating hours, utilities and target schedule. List mandatory documents and any equipment already provided by your team. Share only third-party quotation information you are authorised to disclose.
